Hi. My name is Suzanne. I love beekeeping so much I decided to start a business built around these amazing little creatures.

LEARN ABOUT THE GENTLE BEE
I started beekeeping in 2016 while studying a degree at Newcastle University. I became a founding member of the Student Union Bee Society and still help them when needed. After graduating in 2020 beekeeping was all I wanted to do so I set up The Gentle Bee. I breed from my own bees and plan to offer colonies and queens for sale in 2024.

I love my bees but want to take care of them in a way that cares for the planet too, so they live within a five mile radius of Newcastle upon Tyne and the honey is bottled there too. This keeps food miles and carbon footprint as low as possible.

I am a member of the British Beekeepers Association and the Bee Improvement and Bee Breeders Association.

Beeswax and honey
I love making beeswax candles. The gentle, natural scent fills the whole house when I'm making them. The candles burn slow and steady, helping me to unwind after a busy day.
​
My bees make delicious honey but I only take a little bit from them throughout the summer. I don't blend honeys together, preferring each jar to be uniquely from only one of my hives.

When I graduated from Newcastle University the only thing on my mind were my bees. I'd been thinking about starting my own bee business for about a year. Now I could actually do it.
I've learned so many new skills, setting up a website (thanks to the ease of the Wix website builder), got my business email address sorted, social media sites etc. And here I am!
